Prison breakout in Haiti leaves 12 dead

A prison break in the Haitian city of Saint-Marc left 12 inmates dead yesterday, Mayor Myriam Fievre said, the third such case in recent months in the country that is suffering a humanitarian crisis aggravated by gang violence. The situation in the prison, which houses 540 inmates, is under control, but local police said they will remain on alert in this and other penal colonies.
