Solingen. Three people were killed and at least five seriously injured in a knife attack during a festival commemorating the 650th anniversary of the city of Solingen, Germany.
Local authorities reported that it was possibly a lone attacker and urged those in attendance to leave the area with extreme caution, as the attacker could not be captured. We are in shock. We all wanted to celebrate our city’s anniversary together, and now we have dead and wounded to mourn.Mayor Tim Kurzbach said on his Facebook account.
Witness Lars Breitzke told a local newspaper that he knew something was wrong when he saw a singer on stage with a strange expression on his face.
The police operation put at least one helicopter in the air, while numerous police and emergency vehicles with flashing blue lights were circulating on the road and several streets were closed.
