“The Devil Wears Prada” was one of the most popular films of 2006, and it’s not hard to see why. In addition to the cast of the brilliant Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep, the characters wore some stunning outfits that are still recreated today. Two decades later, the drama may (finally) get a sequel.
The news was released this Monday, July 8, by several North American media outlets. According to “Variety”, the director of the first film, Aline Brosh McKenna, is in negotiations with the studio 20th Century Films to move forward with the project. The second film will mark the return of Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andrea Sachs and Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton. So far, no details have been given about the title of the production, or the possible release date.
However, everything points to a plot twist and Emily will emerge as the director of a large luxury group, while Miranda will be facing many difficulties. With the publishing market in decline, the director of the large fashion magazine will need the help of her former assistant to spend a lot of money on advertising and save the publication.
Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway reunited on stage at the SAG Awards in February this year, much to the delight of the audience. Last year, Emily and Anne appeared on Variety magazine’s “Actors on Actors” segment and reminisced about the success of “The Devil Wears Prada.”
“I don’t think any of us knew this film would become what it did. Anne’s lines continue to be mentioned every week. It will always be the film that changed my life,” said Emily Blunt.
The first film follows Andy Sachs, a recent journalism graduate who moves to New York City and lands a job as a junior assistant to Miranda Priestly (Streep), the powerful and demanding editor of a fashion magazine. The journalist finds herself in a high-pressure environment and the relentless demands of her boss put her to the test. But she eventually adapts, gaining confidence and style. As she becomes more involved in her work, she faces personal challenges, including a strained relationship with her boyfriend, Nate (Adrian Grenier), and ethical dilemmas about the values of the fashion industry.
