Riot police intervened for the first time yesterday to disperse some of the blockades on the avenues of Bogotá and its surroundings during the fourth day of protests by transporters in Colombia, who reject the rise in the price of diesel. Hundreds of cargo vehicles have blocked the way since Monday on the access roads to the capital and the main cities of the country, in response to the 20 percent increase in the price of a gallon of that fuel up to 2.7 dollars. With some 1,200 uniformed officers, the riot unit cleared a point in the north of the capital of 8 million inhabitants with tear gas. The blockades persist, but with less intensity. In the image, motorcycles and pedestrians avoid the blockade of heavy vehicles.
