Shigeru Ishiba yesterday became the new prime minister of Japan with the approval of Parliament and formed a government that faces important economic, political and international challenges. Ishiba, 67, was elected on Friday leader of the conservative Liberal Democratic Party, the party that has governed almost without interruption since 1955. The legislative vote to officially name him prime minister was a mere formality. The president outlined his political program at a press conference held late on Tuesday (in the image), in which he warned that security [de Japón] has never been more threatened than since the end of World War II.
