Guatemala: two human traffickers arrested

Guatemala. Yesterday, the Guatemalan Police intercepted a bus with 70 irregular migrants of 12 nationalities, including 11 children, and captured two alleged human traffickers, authorities reported. The passenger service vehicle was stopped by agents on the highway to the Pacific, in the jurisdiction of the department of Escuintla, which leads to the border with Mexico, the Police said in X. The operation was carried out in “follow-up to a line of investigation to criminal structures that are dedicated to trafficking illegal of people” who seek to reach the United States, the institution clarified. There were 70 migrants traveling in the transport unit, the majority (27) from Cuba, but also from Russia, China, India, Uzbekistan, Ecuador, Vietnam and Venezuela, who were sent to the Guatemalan Migration Institute for the repatriation process. Two alleged coyotes, the bus driver and the bus assistant, were captured and taken to court.
