Port-au-Prince. Haiti’s transitional presidential council transferred the rotating presidency to architect Leslie Voltaire, despite the opposition of the outgoing president, Edgard Leblanc Fils, who refused to sign a decree ratifying the measure. Leblanc Fils alleged unresolved corruption allegations against three other councilors who remain voting and signed the transition. Under my presidency, the transitional presidential council will consolidate its structures to work more effectively and transparentlydeclared Voltaire, who represents the party of former president Jean-Bertrand Aristide. The disagreements in the council create new uncertainty in a country still reeling from the massacre of at least 70 people by a gang last week, and whose Prime Minister Garry Conille is seeking security help abroad. Haiti appointed the transitional council in April, which was tasked with electing a premier and exercising certain presidential powers, until it is considered that there are conditions to hold new elections.
