Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine and near the Russian border, has been hit by relentless shelling for months.

Two dead and more than 30 injured is the result of attacks during the daywrote the head of the region, Oleg Sinegubov, on social networks.

Ukraine also reported civilian deaths in the south and east.

The head of the southern Zaporizhia region, Ivan Fedorov, reported that a 71-year-old man was killed during a drone strike while he was traveling in his car south of the regional capital and near the front line. A woman traveling with him survived.

In the eastern area, where intense fighting continues, authorities said a Russian bombing killed one person and wounded six others in Kostyantinivka.

Denis Pushilin, head of the Russian-occupied Donietsk region, said two men, aged around 40 and 60, died in the town of Zaitseve.

The town is north of Gorlivka, a city that has been under the control of pro-Russian separatists since 2014.

Moscow invaded the former Soviet republic in February 2022.

For now, the Russian forces maintained their advance. The units of the Southern group have continued advancing and liberated the town of Zorianin the eastern Donietsk region, the Russian army stated in a statement.

Likewise, The units of the Vostok group improved their tactical situation and liberated the town of Zolota Nivain the same region, he added.

In recent weeks, Moscow has claimed the seizure of numerous towns in the Donietsk region.

Ukrainian forces are having trouble defending the eastern front and on August 6 opted to launch a major attack in the Russian border region of Kursk, where they control hundreds of square kilometers of territory, they said.

With this they hoped to force Moscow to withdraw forces from the Donietsk region, but the Russian soldiers continued to advance.

Russia even confirmed last week the capture of the city of Vuhledar, where the eastern and southern fronts meet and for which both sides battled for more than two years.
