Yesterday, more than 2,000 soldiers and 500 police surrounded San Marcos, a populous neighborhood located on the southern outskirts of San Salvador, in an operation to capture remnants of gangs in the area, reported the Salvadoran president, Nayib Bukele. No major incidents were reported. Security forces, including elite units, conducted house-to-house searches. Checkpoints were also installed on the periphery of the area, where those trying to enter or leave the neighborhood were searched.
