▲ The remnants of the hurricane Beryl The storms spawned tornadoes and threatened flooding from the Great Lakes to New England on Monday as the system moved into the northeast and southern Canada, leaving millions without power in the Houston area. Thousands were left without electricity in New York, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Houston’s power company was also under increasing pressure over its response to the storm. Berylwhile 1.4 million homes and businesses were left without power in that region. Meanwhile, Las Vegas, Nevada, yesterday faced its fifth consecutive day of record temperatures of 46.1 degrees Celsius or more, in the midst of a prolonged heat wave.
