Moscow. Russian armed forces have taken control of the town of Urozhyenoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Russian Defence Ministry said yesterday. Units of the Eastern Group of Troops captured the village of Urozhaynoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic and are carrying out mine clearance and demining. The military said on Telegram that Russian air defense systems shot down 10 Himars missiles and 33 drones in one day. “Urozhyoye,” located on the southern front, is close to the Zaporizhia region and was one of the few Ukrainian territories captured during its 2023 offensive. Russian troops advanced on a south-north axis, along the Mokri Yaly River. Russia has been gaining ground in eastern Ukraine since the failure of the major Ukrainian counteroffensive last summer and the fall of the Avdiivka fortress in February. In May, Russian troops also launched an offensive in the Kharkiv region (northeast), which was quickly stopped by the dispatch of reinforcements by Ukraine, forcing the latter to extend its deployment. In recent months, Russian troops have made significant progress in northeastern and eastern Ukraine, especially in Donetsk province, one of the regions along with Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, which have been partially occupied since the start of the Russian operation, nearly two and a half years ago.
