Former Ecuadorian minister Walter Hipólito Solís cannot be extradited to Ecuador, as the authorities of Daniel Noboa’s government claim, because he enjoys refugee status in Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbuam Pardo stated yesterday.
In his daily press conference, he confirmed that the former official of Rafael Correa’s government was detained in Mexico by Interpol and later released because he has protection in our country, because he was granted refuge.
Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that there is coordination between the Mexican authorities and Interpol and that the capture of the former Ecuadorian minister occurred because there was a red card on him, that is, an arrest warrant, but that this was not applied due to his condition. refugee granted by Mexico.
Solís is facing criminal proceedings in his country for alleged embezzlement in the Manabí Reconstruction case, in which former vice president Jorge Glas, who is currently being held in La Roca prison in Guayaquil, is also being prosecuted.
