Madrid. A worker who was participating in the reconstruction of the Lluís Vives school, affected by floods in Massanassa, in the Spanish region of Valencia, died yesterday after part of the building’s roof collapsed, authorities reported.

Another worker was injured and is in critical condition.

A day after 5 thousand people demonstrated in the center of the city of Valencia to demand the resignation of Carlos Mazón, the right-wing president of the autonomous community who is blamed for the delay in normalizing the public educational system, this accident occurred precisely in a public school.

According to official data, three weeks after the torrential rains there are 16,000 minors without going to school due to damage to the schools, and it is estimated that there are more than 2,100 homes uninhabitable due to affected structures.

At noon, the emergency services received notification of a collapse in the aforementioned school, which caused the mobilization of firefighters from the towns of Torrent and Catarroja.

One of the hypotheses that the National Police has is that the cause of the collapse could be related to an excavator machine that was working on the rehabilitation of the center and that had accidentally collided with one of the pillars of the building, which would have caused the partial collapse. from the roof.

The number of fatalities due to the rains caused by DANA in Valencia rose to 222, including the worker who died yesterday.

Meanwhile, search efforts continue to find five missing people and the victims number in the tens of thousands.
