Gaza Strip. The Civil Defense in Gaza indicated that the Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip yesterday left at least 40 dead, including a journalist from the Al Jazeera network and three rescue workers.
The Qatari news network condemned the death of its journalist, calling it a targeted killingbringing the number of journalists or media workers killed by Tel Aviv to 195 in the 13 months of this war.
Al Jazeera Media Network condemns in the strongest terms the murder of its cameraman, Ahmed Baker al Louh, 39, at the hands of Israeli occupation forces. He was brutally killed in an airstrike against a Civil Defense post in the market area of the Al Nuseirat camp, in the center of the strip.the chain reported.
Rescuers found 18 bodies after the attacks, which left dozens injured, said the agency’s spokesman, Mahmud Basal.
Four other people died and eight were injured in the bombing of a tent that housed dozens of displaced people in Deir el Balah, a city in the center of the territory, the same source indicated.
That night, a spokesman reported to AFP that another attack left at least 12 dead and dozens injured when it hit the Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz school in Khan Yunis (south) of the Gaza Strip, which houses displaced people.
The Israeli army indicated that it will investigate these events, when contacted by AFP.
AFP images showed residents recovering the bodies of their relatives in a Gaza City hospital while others lay under blankets.
The Israeli army confirmed in a statement that it launched bombings in the Beit Hanun and Beit Lahia areas.
In another statement, the army reported that it attacked a clinic in northern Gaza, alleging that it was used by Hamas fighters as command and control centeras well as a weapons depot.
According to the army, the mayor of Deir el Balah, who died in one of the attacks, was a active member of the military wing of Hamas.
For weeks, the Israeli army has been carrying out an operation in the north of the Gaza Strip, with the objective, it says, of preventing militants from the Islamist movement Hamas from regrouping in the area.
Accelerated annexation under cover of war
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry once again accused Israel of accelerating the pace of the annexation of the reoccupied West Bank, under the cover of the war in the Gaza Strip.
The war broke out with the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023 against southern Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,208 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on official data.
The Israeli retaliation campaign in Gaza has killed more than 44,976 people, according to data from the Ministry of Health of this Hamas-ruled territory that the United Nations considers credible.
In another matter, Tel Aviv announced that it will close its embassy in Ireland in response to what Israel’s foreign ministry described as the extremely anti-Israel policies of Ireland.
In May, Israel withdrew its ambassador in Dublin after Ireland announced, along with Norway, Spain and Slovenia, that it would recognize a Palestinian state.
The Irish cabinet decided last week to formally intervene in South Africa’s case against Israel before the International Court of Justice, which accuses Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. Israel denies it.
On the northern front, Israel detonated houses in the western sector of Lebanon’s southern border, despite the ceasefire being in force since November 27.
