Bangladesh: Police kill 105 youths in crackdown on protests

Dhaka. At least 105 people have died in Bangladesh after police crackdown on youth protests against government employment quotas. unfairly favor allies of the ruling partythe protesters argue. Meanwhile, the authorities declared a curfew and authorized the deployment of military personnel.

We have banned all demonstrations, processions and public gatherings in Dhaka today (yesterday)said police chief Habibur Rahman, adding that the measure was necessary to ensure public safety.

Protesters stormed a jail in Narsingdi, 50 km (30 miles) from the capital, freed inmates and set the building on fire, a police official said.

The government also cut off some mobile phone services, telecommunications were disrupted and television news channels stopped broadcasting.
