London. The representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations (UN), Barbara Woodward, yesterday demanded a drastic improvement in the humanitarian situation in Gaza and denounced the levels of violence reached by settlers in the reoccupied West Bank.

The Israeli government has seized more land this year than in the past two decades. This is unacceptable: it contradicts multiple resolutions of this Council and undermines the viability of a two-state solution.Woodward said.

The new Labour government in London has expressed its commitment to to give the people of the reoccupied West Bank and Gaza the political perspective of a credible path to a Palestinian state and a new future. And it must be irreversible.the British representative said.

European Foreign Minister Josep Borrell called for a ceasefire and an urgent political solution to the craziness of the conflict in Gaza

UNRWA calls for United Nations protection

Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) called on the Security Council to protect its operations in Gaza and other areas of the region, in light of the Israeli Parliament’s initiative to declare it terrorist organization.

If Israel passes laws that would ban UNRWA’s work, in addition to the catastrophic effect on Palestinians, it would set a dangerous precedent for future humanitarian operations.the organization warned.
