Bogota. President Gustavo Petro said yesterday that Serious doubts arise around the Venezuelan electoral process which can lead to violent polarization with serious divisive consequences in the neighboring country.

Petro had distanced himself from a document from several Latin American countries, which had been calling since Sunday night for a recount of votes and an urgent meeting of the Organization of American States.

However, yesterday morning he urged the Venezuelan government to allow the elections to end in peace, with a transparent scrutiny, vote counting, minutes and with oversight by all political forces in the country.

The statement by the Colombian head of state was accompanied by a request to the United States government to suspend the blockades and decisions against Venezuelan citizens.

The blockade is an inhuman measure that only brings more hunger and more violence than there already is and promotes the exodus of peoples.he pointed.
