Former right-wing leaders condemn persecution of opponents

Madrid. Some thirty former right-wing and far-right Ibero-American leaders, including the Spanish José María Aznar and Mariano Rajoy, the Mexican Felipe Calderón and the Colombian Álvaro Uribe, condemned the persecution against opposition leader María Corina Machado and her candidate Edmundo González, who they consider winner of the presidential elections. The Democratic Initiative of Spain and the Americas denounced a serious alteration of the democratic and constitutional order in Venezuela and urged to the democratic governments of the world to respect the non-negotiable popular sovereignty in Venezuela.
