Washington. Several U.S. and coalition military personnel in the Middle East were wounded in a drone attack on the Kherab al-Jir airbase in northeastern Syria on Friday, a U.S. official told Reuters on Friday.

It was the second major attack on U.S. forces in recent days. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said none of the wounded were in serious condition but some troops had been moved elsewhere for evaluation. The U.S. military initially believed there were no casualties in the attack, but later found that some personnel suffered minor injuries, including smoke inhalation and brain injuries for which they were being examined. No group claimed responsibility for the attack, the official said, but Iranian-backed militias have carried out similar attacks.
