Guatemala. Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo yesterday filed a motion with the Supreme Court to remove Attorney General Consuelo Porras, who had asked the high court the day before to prosecute the president. A few moments ago I filed a new preliminary hearing (request to lift immunity) against Consuelo Porras for the crimes of violation of the Constitution and abuse of authority.said the social democrat ruler in a press conference. Arévalo urged the justice to no longer be a victim of extortion and blackmail by a corrupt minority and to strictly adhere to the law to stop the cycle of darkness and abuse by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Porras asked the Constitutional Court, the country’s highest judicial authority, the day before yesterday to prosecute the president, arguing that he has not complied with an order issued in May to avoid actions to remove her from office. Arévalo lacks the authority to dismiss the prosecutor, who has a mandate until 2026.
