Madrid. The Cuban authorities confirmed cuts in the electricity supply since five in the morning yesterday that lasted all day. The technical director of the Cuban Electrical Union (UNE), Lázaro Guerra Hernández, indicated that the system held up until dawn.

The official added that two generating units, 6 of Renté and 5 of the Mariel thermoelectric plant, were out of service due to a breakdown, Martí Noticias reported.

Another four units were disconnected from the National Electric System (SEN) for maintenance and will be available in the short term, he clarified.

The state company Unión Eléctrica announced yesterday that there would be blackouts in 46 percent of the territory in the evening, when demand increases in the midst of the serious energy crisis in the country.
