Beijing. China imposed countermeasures on nine US military companies yesterday over arms sales to Taiwan, the Foreign Ministry said.

The document notes that the United States recently announced, once again, plans to sell arms to that region, which seriously violates the principle of One China and the three joint communiqués between the two countries, interfered in the internal affairs of the Asian country and undermined its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Pursuant to Articles 3, 4, 6, 9 and 15 of China’s Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law, authorities applied the measures against Sierra Nevada Corporation, Stick Rudder Enterprises LLC, Cubic Corporation, S3 AeroDefense, TCOM Limited Partnership, TextOre, Planate Management Group, ACT1 Federal and Exovera.

Movable, immovable and all other types of property in the Asian giant will be frozen. Organizations and individuals in the country are also prohibited from engaging in transactions, cooperation and other activities with such companies.

China strongly condemns and firmly opposes this, and has lodged solemn representations with the US side.Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press conference.

The move came a day after the United States said it had given the first green light to the sale of military spare parts to Taiwan worth some $228 million.

Massive cyber attack

Meanwhile, the US Department of Justice said yesterday that it had neutralised a cyberattack network that affected some 200,000 devices worldwide, run by hackers backed by China.

The malware affected a wide range of devices, including routers, cameras, video recorders and Internet-connected storage devices, setting up a botnet or a network of computers infected with malicious software, according to a statement from the US government.
