not one of the oldest tricks of politics worked again: a billionaire and his even richer cronies are dying of laughter by getting the vast majority to vote against themselves and their own interests and thereby bringing criminals and corrupt people to maximum power.

Reviewing the data on voter turnout (and non-turnout), it is clear that the old divide and conquer trick worked.

In this election, workers voted against workers (45 percent of households with a union member voted for the billionaire and his anti-union allies), women against women (52 percent of white women, for the sexual abuser, who managed to nullify the right constitutional right to abortion), Latinos against Latinos (45 percent, a number unprecedented in half a century), Afro-Americans (double the vote of American men for the long-racist tycoon four years) and immigrants against immigrants.

The anecdotes of immigrants who have achieved citizenship and voted, some for the first time since they had the right to vote, for the billionaire who launched and triumphed with one of the most anti-immigrant messages of modern times are terrible.

From a Mexican domestic worker whose sisters, she said without surprise, voted for Donald Trump and who, when asked why, responded that it was better for the economy and also because the Democrats have let it pass too many immigrants to those who have been given support, housing and work, while those who have been here for decades remain undocumented. From an African taxi driver who voted for the first time in his life to give his vote to Trump because they are letting too many immigrants through.

From what others have the same story, but even with more mystery, like that young Puerto Rican, who indicated that the Republicans had offended his countrymen by calling his birthplace an island of garbagebut he confessed that he voted for Trump, since it was better for families, it would stop the entry of undocumented immigrants and that the Democrats were focused on transsexuals.

The reasons for voting for someone who is obviously harmful to their collective health revolve around a certain irrationality generated by a deep and prolonged disenchantment, anger, hopelessness and more against a political leadership that does not represent them and, in the absence of any other option , are sufficiently convinced that Trump represents an insurgent movement – mind you, not a party.

But with the first appointments to the cabinet and other positions in his government, this insurgency is nothing more than an ultra-reactionary project promising the return to a mythical country of the past and seeking to impose itself on what remains of the democratic system.

Totalitarianism in power invariably substitutes all first-class talents, regardless of their sympathies, as those madmen and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity remains the best guarantee of their loyalty.noted Hannah Arendt (her biographer Samantha Rose Hill reminds us at this juncture).

The late comedian George Carlin summarized the old trick years ago in one of his monologues: “This is how the ruling class operates in every society: they try to divide the rest of the people, they keep the lower and middle classes fighting each other so that they The rich can run away with all the fucking money… You know, anything that’s different, that’s what they’re going to talk about: race, religion, ethnic history and national origin, jobs, income, education, social status, sexuality, anything that’s different. can do so that we follow each other fighting amongst ourselves so they can keep coming back to the bank. Do you know how I describe the social and economic classes of this country? The upper class keeps all the money and pays nothing in taxes. The middle class pays all the taxes, does all the work. The poor are there only to scare the shit out of the middle class, so that they continue applying for those jobs” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ltrdNp_v2g).

It was not achieved before, but perhaps now it will awaken a light of solidarity and united resistance in the face of the increasingly dark shadow over this country and the planet.
