▲ The tropical storm Ernesto strengthened into a hurricane yesterday, unleashing torrential rains on Puerto Rico. It left nearly half the population without power as it threatened to strengthen as it headed toward Bermuda. The storm was about 280 kilometers northwest of San Juan and was moving over open water. The forecast reflects the possibility of it becoming a major cyclone in 48 hours.the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.
