French police arrested Telegram founder Pavel Durov at Le Bourget airport north of Paris on Thursday for offences related to the messaging service, authorities said. France’s agency for the prevention of violence against minors has issued an arrest warrant for Durov as part of a preliminary investigation into fraud, drug trafficking and organised crime, among others, a source close to the case said.
The 39-year-old French-Russian billionaire is suspected of failing to take action to prevent the use of the Telegram platform for criminal purposes.
