Managua. Former Sandinista guerrilla and retired Nicaraguan general Humberto Ortega Saavedra, the closest critic in recent years of his brother and current president of Nicaragua, died yesterday at the age of 77. The Nicaraguan army reported Ortega’s death in a statement, without detailing the cause, through the social network exemplary and patriotic performance as commander in chief. Humberto distanced himself with strong criticism from the management of his brother Daniel Ortega in recent years, despite the fact that he shared power during the revolution of the 1980s as top leader of the Sandinista Popular Army. The president called him traitor publicly at an event at the end of last May.
