Beirut. Israeli fighter jets and drones attacked southern Lebanon yesterday, killing eight people, including a minor, and wounding three others, the country’s health ministry said.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced the death of seven Hezbollah soldiers, including a senior Hezbollah commander identified as Mohamed Mahmud Nayam, head of the Lebanese Shiite movement’s rocket unit.
His nephew, Zulfiqar Radwan, was also reportedly killed in the same airstrike in Eita al Zut, near Ayta al Jabal.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant and his U.S. counterpart Lloyd Austin discussed joint actions by both countries in response to possible threats from Iran and Hezbollah.
Galant and Austin discussed the situation and exchanged views on developments and threats in the region. Their conversation focused on joint preparedness and operational collaboration between Israeli and U.S. forces.the Tel Aviv minister’s press service announced yesterday.
Galant reported on the progress of the Israeli army in the war against the Palestinian Hamas movement, in particular on the destruction of around 150 tunnels in Rafah, in the south of the Palestinian enclave.
The Tel Aviv Defense Minister also stressed the importance of continuing operations to eliminate Hamas fighters and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Josep Borrell asked the new Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, dialogue to reduce regional tensions in what was his first telephone conversation since his appointment, approved this week by the Iranian Parliament.
The Foreign Ministers of Syria, Faisal Al-Mekdad, and Iran, reaffirmed their coordination regarding regional issues, including support for the Palestinian people.
Both leaders also condemned Western policies, especially those of the United States, which support Israel in its massacres against the Palestinian people.
