Washington. Vice President Kamala Harris has officially received the necessary number of votes from her party’s delegates to become the Democratic presidential nominee and the first black woman to lead a major party’s ticket, Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison said. Harris’ nomination came via a virtual vote.

I am very proud to confirm that Vice President Harris has garnered more than a majority of the votes from the entire Convention and will be the party’s nominee after voting closes on Monday.Harrison said.

Harris, the first woman to serve as vice president in the United States, was previously a senator for California (2017-2021) and before that attorney general of that state. On July 21, she had the support of President Joe Biden, who withdrew from the internal Democratic race, to succeed him.

Court settlement over 9/11 attacks annulled

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin yesterday rescinded a plea agreement reached this week by retired Brigadier General Susan Escallier for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed – accused of masterminding the September 11, 2001 (9/11) attacks perpetrated by Al Qaeda – and two other accomplices.

Austin reinstated them as cases punishable by death, rather than life in prison at most, as the court settlement provided.
