Southport., A knife attack at a dance school in Southport, northern England, left two dead and 11 injured, British police reported.
Police said they had arrested a 17-year-old teenager on suspicion of carrying out the attack in this town 20 kilometres north of Liverpool.
The two fatalities are children, and six minors and two adults are reported in critical condition. criticalMerseyside Police Chief Serena Kennedy told a press conference.
The motive for the attack is still unknown, but authorities have so far ruled out a terrorist motive.
Police reported that at 11 a.m. (local time) they were alerted about an attack and that when officers arrived at the scene A man was arrested and a knife was seized.
The ambulance service transported the 11 injured, nine of them children, to various hospitals.
According to some media, the attack took place at a venue where a children’s music and dance event inspired by American singer Taylor Swift was being held.
British Prime Minister, Labour’s Keir Starmer, denounced on social network X the horrible act and it was said shocked.
The UK is seeing an increase in incidents of knife violence, often involving young people.
Last year, 50,000 such incidents were reported, up 7 percent from 2022 and nearly 100 percent in 10 years, according to the national statistics office.
