Paris. French President Emmanuel Macron yesterday named his ally Francois Bayrou as the new prime minister, and entrusted the veteran centrist with the task of leading the country out of the great political crisis it is going through, after a historic parliamentary vote dismissed the previous government. last week.

After assuming the head of government, Bayrou promised that he will display transparency and dedication from the first minute of his mandate, which he assumed from his predecessor, Michel Barnier, dismissed in a motion of censure due to a budget crisis.

Barnier governed as a minority and this lack of support led to difficulties in approving the budgets. In this context, he resorted to article 49.3 of the French Constitution, which contemplates the possibility of passing laws by avoiding the parliamentary vote in exchange for having to submit to a motion of censure, which was promoted by the left and supported by the extreme right, which could not be saved. .

My way of acting will be to hide nothing, neglect nothing and leave nothing aside.said Bayrou at the headquarters of Matignon’s official residence.

He added that he will face without timidness the situation inherited from entire decades at such a serious time for the country, for Europe and in the face of all the risks on the planet.

Bayrou, 73, a crucial partner in Macron’s centrist alliance, has been a well-known figure in politics for decades. Their experience is considered key in efforts to restore stability, as no party has a majority in the National Assembly.

Macron’s strategy aims to prevent far-right leader Marine Le Pen from having the power to decide about the government. Le Pen assisted in Barnier’s removal by joining the forces of her party, the National Rally, with those of the left to pass the no-confidence motion last week.

Meanwhile, the socialists, communists and environmentalists, allies of La France Insoumise in the New Popular Front, refused to enter a Bayrou government, despite agreeing to discuss with Macron’s alliance and the right-wing party The Republicans.
