French President Emmanuel Macron yesterday refused to appoint economist Lucie Castets (pictured), proposed by the New Popular Front, made up of socialists, communists, environmentalists and members of the radical left-wing party La France Insoumise, as prime minister. The president called for a new round of consultations in order to maintain the institutional stability. France is in a impasse political, since none of the three blocks that emerged after the elections (left, centre-right and far right) reached the majority of 289 deputies.
