The French Coast Guard has rescued 223 migrants in two days, whose lives were threatened when they fell from their boats in the waters of the English Channel while trying to reach Great Britain. The foreigners were travelling in several small boats, most of which were overloaded and had technical problems, reported the French maritime prefecture. In another incident, a total of 51 of the 174 undocumented migrants who arrived yesterday on the island of El Hierro, in the Canary Islands, Spain, (image) in the first cayuco of the day are Pakistanis and Syrians, a situation that surprised rescuers and officials, since from those countries the migrants have preferred to travel by the Mediterranean route and not the Atlantic, which is more risky for life.
