Buenos Aires., President Javier Milei and his cabinet seem willing to apply the chainsaw to the armed forces. Today the retirement of the operational commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Fabián Berredo, one of the five most important soldiers in the country, was announced, who filed a complaint before federal judge Daniel Rafecas, accusing the deputy chief of the army Carlos Carugno of threatening him and extorted to retire, or else they would fire his wife Claudia Barros, medical colonel at the Military Hospital.

Berredo said that he considers that he occupied a strategic position, and the issue of his retirement was about a clear figure of coercion; They sent me a messenger to say that if I did not request withdrawal before that date, this event would happen to my wife.he said in an interview with Miter radio from the Clarín group.

For three months, and before presenting my unwavering resignation, I have presented this situation to the institution, to the highest military and civil authorities through notes, and waited for the appropriate measures to be taken; I thought they were going to do it instantly and quicklyexpressed in his resignation letter that he delivered to President Milei, according to the digital newspaper Infobae.

Milei implemented a strong renewal and reduction of the high command of the armed forces, a reform that also included agreements in the Senate for the promotion of new military positions: General Xavier Julián Isaac, who took over as head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Brigadier General Carlos Alberto Presti, as the main person in charge of the General Staff of the army; Rear Admiral Carlos María Allievi was in command of the Navy; and Brigadier Major Fernando Luis Mengo was left in command of the air force.”

The latter, appointed a few days before Milei’s inauguration, was retired on November 21 for alleged corruptionas reported, for allegedly using planes for personal matters.

In Milei’s military restructuring, after assuming the government, 23 of the 55 army generals and seven of 26 admirals retired. The strange thing is that there are no clear protocols or elements to explain how those who must retire are selected, when neither Milei nor her sister Karina, general secretary of the Presidency, nor the Minister of Defense, Luis Petri, have experience in this subject. , but, evidently, they already had a list when they took over the government.

Meanwhile, organizations that defend soldiers tried and convicted of crimes against humanity presented a habeas corpus collective to request the release of the accused, under the premise that they are victims of judicial processes.

A few days after completing one year under the Milei government and after the political scandal that resulted from the visit made by the deputies of La Libertad Avanza to those responsible for the state terrorism applied during the military dictatorship, who are serving sentences in the Ezeiza prison, Now they demand to appear in court.

Local media investigated that the detainees had helped financially in the electoral campaign of the political association that supported Milei.

Among them are Alfredo Astiz, along with other members who worked at the Navy Mechanics School (ESMA), such as Jorge Eduardo Acosta, Adolfo Donda, Ricardo Cavallo and other fearsome characters from that horror story that Argentina experienced, such as priest Christian Federico von Wernich (convicted of seven murders).

The organizations that intercede for those detained for crimes during the dictatorship argue: granting house arrest or other moderate detention measures does not disregard international commitments of the State. Furthermore, if their objective cannot be resolved with house arrest, they request that the Ministry of Security, headed by Patricia Bullrich, who is in charge of the Federal Penitentiary Service, “dictate differentiated rules and special conditions of treatment for their clients.
