Abuja – A two-storey school collapsed during morning classes in Nigeria’s north-central region, killing 22 students. Saints Academy School in Busa Buji community, Plateau, collapsed shortly after classes began. Plateau police spokesman Alfred Alabo said that of 154 trapped youths, 132 had been rescued and were receiving treatment at various hospitals. Medical personnel and rescuers, as well as security forces, were immediately deployed to the scene. To ensure prompt medical care, the government has instructed hospitals to provide the service without the presentation of documentation or payment.said Musa Ashoms, state information commissioner. The Plateau government blamed the tragedy on the weak structure of the school and its location near the bank of a river and urged schools with similar problems to close. There have been more than a dozen building collapses in Nigeria in the past two years.
