Sao Paulo., The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, is neurologically perfect after the two surgical procedures he underwent this week to treat an intracranial hemorrhage, his medical team reported yesterday. Hours later, the president’s security scheme was reinforced after a plot to assassinate him was discovered.
Today he should be discharged from intensive care, estimated doctor Roberto Kalil, regarding the surgery of the 79-year-old Brazilian president, who needed a second complementary intervention through a femoral catheterization, provided for in the medical protocol, to minimize the risk of more bleeding in the future.
Regarding the assassination plan, according to the television station CNN Brazil, the federal police indicated that one of the plans was to take advantage of Lula’s frequent visits to hospitals to kill him by poisoning or use of chemicals that would cause organic collapse.
The concern is related to the purpose of the crime prepared by members of the military group Pretos kids (black children), elite special operations commando that receives qualified training in sabotage actions and incitement to popular insurgency. According to the police, the suspects were thinking of taking advantage of one of the chief executive’s visits to the medical center to assassinate him.
One of the hypotheses was the use of chemicals to cause organic collapse considering the health vulnerability and frequent visits to hospitals by the former union leader.
Lula underwent successful surgery for the first time on Tuesday in Sao Paulo for a hematoma near the brain, a consequence of a blow almost two months ago, when he fell in the bathroom of the presidential residence in Brasilia.
The president, who canceled a trip to Russia for a BRICS summit after the accident, was left with an injury that left a visible cut on the back of his head, slightly above his neck.
He did not suffer any neurological damagesaid Dr. Roberto Kalil, who has been monitoring the president’s health for years. Despite medical reports about the progressive president’s favorable evolution, many Brazilians gathered near the hospital to show their support.
With Lula hospitalized, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin took part in the presidential agenda, but did not officially assume the interim role during the head of state’s convalescence. Lula is in permanent exercise of the activity of the Executive Branchstated its Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Social Communication of the Brazilian presidency, Paulo Pimenta, confirmed that Lula will seek re-election in the 2026 elections.
The former union leader, soon to turn 80, recently declared that he would seek a new term if necessary, but first he would consider his health.
