Tegucigalpa. Honduran authorities yesterday called for primary elections on March 9, with a view to general elections to be held in November 2025. This call is made in the midst of a crisis that broke out on August 28, when the leftist president, Xiomara Castro, eliminated the extradition treaty signed with the United States since 1912, but which in 2014 allowed the handover to Washington of fifty people accused of drug trafficking, including former president Juan Orlando Hernández (2014-2022) who was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
