Moscow. Russia claimed control of another town in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine on Monday, where its troops have made a series of advances in recent months.

Units of the South Group of Troops liberated the village of Georgievka, located in the Donetsk Republicthe Kremlin said in a statement.

The town lies between Marinka, which fell to Moscow forces late last year, and Ukrainian-held Kurakhov, in a part of the front that has not moved much in weeks. It is also south of the town of Krasnogorivka, which Russia claimed to have captured last week.

Further north, still in the Donetsk region, Russian forces are pushing to take the town of Pokrovsk, having advanced in the area for several months. While the Kremlin is taking better positions in eastern Ukraine, kyiv has maintained control of parts of the Russian Kursk region for more than a month. Ukraine said yesterday that Russian airstrikes killed two civilians in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, bordering Kursk.

The European Parliament yesterday called on the European Union (EU) to remove restrictions on the Ukrainian government so that it can strike effectively legitimate Russian territory with weapons supplied by Western countries.

In a resolution adopted by 425 votes in favour, 131 against and 63 abstentions, MEPs stated: If these measures are not lifted, Ukraine will not be able to fully exercise its right to self-defence and will remain exposed to attacks against its population and infrastructure..

The sum of just over 178 million 550 thousand dollars from frozen Russian assets will be used to cover Ukraine’s urgent humanitarian needs during the winter, announced yesterday the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an order imposing sanctions on 42 entities and six individuals from Russia, China, the United Arab Emirates and Iran. The sanctions provide for a 10-year ban or restriction on the entry of ships into Ukraine’s territorial sea, internal waters and ports, as well as a ban on aircraft entering Ukrainian airspace or landing on Ukrainian territory.
