More than a year since the premiere of “Spider-Man: Through the Spiderverse”, in theaters on June 1, 2023, the film has finally arrived on streaming. The animated feature film has been available on Prime Video since Monday, July 7.
The production follows Miles Morales as he is “transported into an epic adventure across the multiverse, and must join forces with Spider-Woman Gwen Stacy and a new team of heroes from different dimensions who share his powers. However, everything changes when the heroes come to blows over how to deal with a new threat. To make matters worse, they must face a villain far more powerful than anything they have encountered before. Now, to save the people he loves most in the world, Miles must redefine what it means to be a Super Hero.”, as the synopsis reads.
Actor Shameik Moore voices the main character. The cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Issa Era as Jessica Drew, Brian Tyree Henry as Jeff Morales, among others. Jason Schwartzman plays the villain Mancha, who after an accident had his body covered in interdimensional portals that allow him to travel through the multiverse.
The film that has just arrived on Prime Video is the sequel to “Spider-Man: No Spiderverse”, launched in 2018, which tells the story of how Miles got his powers. The continuation of the story features more than six different animation styles and thousands of hand-drawn pixels to bring more than 280 variations of the character to life. The third film in the trilogy will be the conclusion of the story, but there is no release date yet.
With a score of 95 percent on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the feature film was nominated for an Oscar: Best Animated Film of 2024. It grossed around 3.467 million euros at the box office worldwide.
