The government of Vanuatu yesterday declared a state of emergency for seven days after the 7.4 earthquake that hit the island country, located in the South Pacific, which left at least 14 dead and more than 200 injured. The earthquake also caused widespread damage to infrastructure. Among the most affected buildings is the headquarters of the US embassy in Port Vila. There were landslides and basic services were interrupted. Vanuatu police, who continue with rescue efforts, warned the population to use caution when approaching some buildings or roads. where it is not safe to go. The Red Cross in the Pacific reported the toll of victims, which is expected to increase.
