At least two dead and 92 injured by super typhoon Yagi hit the southern Chinese island of Hainan, state news agency Xinhua reported today. State broadcaster CCTV said the storm brought winds of more than 230 kilometers per hour that uprooted trees, forcing the evacuation of some 460,000 people on the island. Yagi The storm made landfall yesterday in Hainan, a popular holiday destination for tourists from the Asian nation, where the main airport was closed until 3:00 p.m. today. In Canton, China’s most populous province, the weather phenomenon caused the evacuation of more than 574,000 residents. This week, the storm killed at least 13 people in the Philippines, where it arrived as a tropical storm, before increasing in intensity on its way to China. The storm is expected to move north to Vietnam, where, according to the path predicted by the Asian climate monitoring system, it will hit Halong Bay, declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.
