Caracas. The United States announced sanctions against 21 officials of the security apparatus and members of the cabinet of the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, for carrying out his orders to repress society after declaring itself the winner, fraudulently of the elections held last July. Caracas rejected the new penalties against a group of patriots and described them as desperate act.
Among those sanctioned are the heads of the intelligence services, Alexis José Rodríguez Cabello, of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service; General Javier José Marcano Tábata, from the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence, and General Rubén Santiago, from the National Police.
The penalties also target ministers: the Minister of Communication, Freddy Ñáñez; of the Presidency, Rear Admiral Aníbal Coronado Millán; Planning, Ricardo Menéndez; of the Penitentiary Service, Julio García Zerpa, and Daniella Desiree Cabello, daughter of the Minister of the Interior, Diosdado Cabello, in charge of Export Promotion.
Those sanctioned have supported and carried out Maduro’s orders to repress civil society in his efforts to fraudulently declare himself the winner of the July 28 presidential elections.says the Treasury Department in a statement.
The outbreak of post-election protests left 28 dead, 200 injured and some 2,400 detained, while the opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia ended up going into exile in Spain.
Measures of a decadent government
The announced measures are a desperate act by a decadent and erratic (American) government, which seeks to hide its resounding electoral failure and the serious social crisis in which it leaves the country.the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry revised in a statement, after rejecting the sanctions against a group of patriots who, from their functions, have dedicated themselves to safeguarding peace, stability, economic recovery and national unity in the face of fascist violence designed, financed and promoted from Washington, against the democratic will of the Venezuelan people.
Caracas assured that these unilateral measures They do not promote democracy in Venezuela, but instead seek to give a last breath to a dispersed and discredited fascist group that has no roots in the Venezuelan population, in order to prolong their failed policy of regime change..
Venezuela has 459 sanctions imposed by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury Department – the main sanctioning agency in the world – which involve the property lock and entry suspension to the United States and prohibit all operations, within its territory, with punished individuals, according to the Venezuelan Anti-Blockade Observatory. To date, there are almost 2,000 people affected by this type of restrictions.
In addition, the oil industry of the South American country has been sanctioned since 2019, although the White House grants licenses to companies to operate in that country, such as the American company Chevron.
