Madrid. Thousands of people demonstrated yesterday in the center of Valencia to demand the resignation of the right-wing Carlos Mazón, in charge of managing the crisis caused by the torrential rains.

As a sign of mourning and respect for family members and people who have lost a loved one, the platforms and associations of the left and nationalism of the region that called for the demonstration asked attendees to march in silence; However, the riot police used batons to suppress some protesters in front of the town hall to make them retreat.

In the joint statement, the citizens in the mobilization demanded purging responsibilities for poor management of the crisis. In addition, they pointed out Carlos Mazón for having demonstrated great inefficiency in managing the crisis, acting 12 hours late after ineffective forecasting and late management.

They criticize bosses

Protestants also criticized the response of those companies that required their workers to attend to their workplaces in the midst of the crisis. An example of this was Mercadona, one of the largest food distribution chains in Spain, as reported by several political parties such as Podemos, Sumar and Compromís.

The mobilization in Valencia had some replicas in other Spanish cities, such as Madrid and Barcelona, ​​where more than a thousand people gathered in each. The cold drop, also called high-level isolated depression (DANA), which occurred on Tuesday, October 29 in the southeast of Spain, especially in Valencia, is one of the worst natural disasters in the history of the country that has left a provisional death toll of 220 people. died and more than 36,500 rescued.

There are still 50 missing and around 71 towns affected by the torrential rains in which 845 thousand people live, which represents 31.8 percent of the population of the autonomous community.

In the main affected towns such as Paiporta, Chiva, Benetusser and Massanassa, street and home cleaning tasks continue.
