Mobilizations against the government of Daniel Noboa were registered yesterday in several cities in Ecuador in rejection of the prolonged blackouts – up to 14 hours each day –, insecurity, criminal violence and the economic crisis, which protesters attribute to the current administration. The most intense protests were in the capital, Quito (image). Hundreds of university students, unions and members of social organizations took to the streets amid slogans and friction with security forces. There were burning of tires, people carrying Ecuadorian flags and shouting slogans of Get out, Noboa, get out!. Another contingent was mobilized in Guayaquil with the same demands, in which the president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador, Leonidas Iza, participated, who is the ruling party’s strongest opponent in the presidential elections in February. At press time, there is no police report on the balance of the demonstrations.
