Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump threatened yesterday to suspend trade relations with Mexico if he returns to the White House after the November elections, during a campaign event in a controversial city in Michigan, which has been an important location for the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) in the past and where a month ago a group of white supremacists chanted: We love Hitler, we love Trump.

“Mexico is really taking advantage of our country, they want billions of dollars just to talk… That won’t happen with me. They wanted $2 million before they started negotiating. I would say, ‘Really, negotiate?’ The trade relationship with Mexico is over. And they would say, ‘Sir, we’re going to give you $2 billion,’” he said at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office in Howell, a city of about 10,000 people northwest of Detroit.

“They could have told Mexico: if you don’t do this, we won’t trade with you, we won’t do business with you, we won’t let you sell your cars in the United States… to these ridiculous people. They took 32 percent of our auto industry from us over many years, they are building some of the largest auto plants in the world; they think they are going to make these cars and then ship them to the United States without paying taxes. That is not going to happen. We will put a tariff of 100 to 200 percent. We are not going to allow that to happen,” the Republican promised.

He also said he would close the border with Mexico on his first day as president, and reproached his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, for not having been more forceful with the neighbor. I will send Kamala’s (Harris) illegal immigrants back to their countries.

The salute to Hitler and the magnate

The rally took place in Howell, where a white supremacist rally took place last month. They chanted in the streets:Heil Hitler!, they marched with banners that read: White Lives Matter (White lives matter). According to local media, chants such as We love Hitler, we love Trump.
