kyiv. The Ukrainian army confirmed yesterday that it had launched a series of major attacks on two weapons depots in southern and western Russia, where authorities issued evacuation orders and declared a state of emergency in one of the towns, while a 25-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl died after a Russian kamikaze drone hit a vehicle in Nikopol, in southeastern Ukraine.

The governor of the southern Russian region of Krasnodar, Veniamin Kondratiev, reported on social networks that he decreed a local emergency situation regime in the Tikhoretsk district.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces indicated that one of the bombed warehouses located in that town was one of the three largest storage bases of weapons and ammunition from Russia, as well as a key place for the logistics of enemy troops.

The other depot, located in the town of Oktiabrsky in the Tver region, where authorities also said the attack took place, stored artillery ammunition and missiles, according to a source in the Ukrainian security services.

Following the drone flight, explosions were triggered in the warehouse and five fires were started at the scene, the source added.

Russian authorities never mentioned the targets of the bombings, although they did say that no casualties were caused.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky yesterday regretted that the United States and the United Kingdom have not authorized him to use long-range missiles to attack Russia.

Neither the United States nor the United Kingdom have given us permission to use these weapons on Russian territory, against any target and at any distance. And kyiv has therefore not done so, Zelensky told reporters the day before yesterday evening.

The Ukrainian president said that a quick decision was needed, at a time when Russia displaces their warplanes to more distant bases.

The American president can still strengthen Ukraine and make important decisions before the end of his term in January, Zelensky stressed.
