Tegucigalpa. The US government urged the Honduran government to rethink the breakdown of the bilateral extradition agreement, which was ordered this week by President Xiomara Castro, following public criticism from Washington’s representative in Tegucigalpa, which caused a diplomatic clash.

The White House hopes that Castro’s decision is not final, Because it will undermine the efforts of both countries to jointly combat drug trafficking and bring criminals to justice..

Xiomara Castro assured that these attacks are part of a coup plan and recalled the overthrow of then-President Manuel Zelaya by the military on June 28, 2009. We have already experienced a coup d’état, we have already lived through what that means: violence, exile, persecution, violations of human rights. I want to promise the Honduran people that there will be no more coups d’état.he said.

We will continue to build the peace and unity that is needed today. Never forget that we are resistance.he concluded.

The president invoked the Honduran Constitution and international treaties to order Foreign Minister Enrique Reina to denounce the extradition treaty with the United States, which was immediately complied with.

However, the United States maintained that At this time, the extradition treaty remains in force.regardless of the political statements of recent days.
