Madrid. The Chinese Foreign Ministry yesterday urged the United States to abandon its policies of interventionism in Latin America at a time when the US State Department insisted that “Nicolás Maduro and his representatives have manipulated the electoral results, falsely claimed victory and carried out widespread repression to maintain power.
The United States may have announced the end of the Monroe Doctrine, but the fact is that, for 200 years, hegemony and power relations, intrinsic to the doctrine, are far from being abandoned.explained at a press conference the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian, who expressed his full support for Latin American nations against the interferences carried out by Washington, since “such approaches will not gain support and will be relegated to the confines of history.
We urge the United States to discard the anachronistic Monroe Doctrine and interventionism as soon as possible, to stop unilateral actions based on intimidation, coercion, sanctions and blockades, and to develop relations that seek mutually beneficial cooperation with the countries of the region.he stressed.
These ties should be based in mutual respect, equality and non-interference in internal affairs of each country. Washington’s hegemony and power relations go against the unstoppable historical tendency of Latin American countries to remain independent and seek strength through unity.he noted.
The US State Department insisted that The National Electoral Council, controlled by Maduro, has not corroborated the announced results by presenting original voting records, as it did after the 2013 and 2018 elections.. He added that Venezuelans have voted, the results are clear and their will must be respected.
