Rescue crews continued searching on Monday for a person reported missing in the waters of Cochiti Lake after the individual disappeared Sunday night.
The Cochiti Fire Department said the Pueblo de Cochiti, Cochiti Fire Department, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers established a unified command to coordinate search-and-rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the Pueblo de Cochiti and Army Corps of Engineers has issued a closure order for the affected area. They have asked all members of the public to honor this closure and avoid entering the restricted area. Keeping the area clear allows emergency personnel to operate safely and efficiently and helps ensure the best possible conditions for the ongoing search.
The following areas remain closed: Cochiti Swim Beach and Day Use Area, Cochiti Boat Ramp and Day Use Area, Tetilla Boat Ramp and Day Use Area, Cochiti Hiking Trails, and Cochiti Lake Dam.
Authorities have released few details about the incident. They said they recognize the public’s concern and appreciate the community’s patience, cooperation, and respect for the privacy of those affected.
