Melbourne. The president of the Russian-backed Georgian breakaway region of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhania, has resigned, Russian news agency Interfax reported Tuesday, citing a document signed following negotiations in recent days between the government and the opposition. Interfax added that several other officials working with Aslan Bzhania will also resign. Reuters could not independently verify the report.
