Keep an umbrella handy if you’re heading outdoors Wednesday evening. A report as of 5:24 p.m. said showers and thunderstorms will continue in western and northern New Mexico. Some mountain areas could possibly get more than an inch of rain.
According to KOB 4, storm chances Wednesday night mainly target:
- Farmington,
- Chama,
- Gallup,
- Grants,
- Silver City,
- Socorro,
- and the Jemez Mountains.
Heavy downpours, gusty and erratic winds, and frequent lightning pose the main threats. Some areas in the northern and western mountains could receive more than an inch of rain.
A gusty east canyon wind may develop Wednesday evening in Albuquerque, Los Lunas, Belen, and Socorro. Wind gusts could reach near 40 mph, says the report.
Meanwhile, low clouds may develop late tonight over Roswell, Hobbs, Carlsbad, and other parts of southeast New Mexico.
What to Expect Thursday
KOB 4 reported that Thursday’s forecast remains “a little tricky.” Afternoon thunderstorms are most likely in Farmington, Chama, Gallup, Grants, Silver City, the Gila region, Ruidoso, Roswell, Carlsbad, and Hobbs.
Some areas may see fewer storms depending on how much drier air moves in. These include Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Clovis, and Portales.
“Storms that do develop will move more slowly, which could lead to localized heavy rainfall,” according to the report.
